Tenerife wildfire restrictions

In late July 2026 the Cabildo de Tenerife introduced emergency wildfire bans across the island as a heat wave and Saharan dust raised fire risk. The restrictions prohibited open flames, portable stoves, smoking, spark‑producing tools and fireworks in designated northern and southern risk zones, and suspended campsites and organized events.

After a small brush fire at the Chivisaya viewpoint in early August, the island administration escalated the measures to a second‑level restriction. President Rosa Dávila ordered bans on open fires, grilling, chainsaws, welders, pyrotechnics, smoking in forested areas and vehicle use on forest roads. Temperatures were forecast to reach up to 37 °C in the southern highlands, keeping fire danger very high.

A September outlook indicated the island would remain warm with daytime temperatures of 18‑22 °C, low rainfall (10‑12 mm) and abundant sunshine, suggesting the heightened restrictions would likely stay in place through the early autumn period.
