Tenerife reservoirs hold 68% capacity as summer begins

On 1 July 2026 the public water company Balten reported that Tenerife’s reservoirs contained 3.433 million m³ of water, representing 68.1 % of total capacity. This is a decrease from 77.6 % in June, yet 413,576 m³ higher than the same date in 2025. The northern basins stood at 72.9 % capacity while the southern basins were at 58 %.

Councillor for the Primary Sector Valentín González described the level as "very positive for the island’s agriculture" and said it should support the summer irrigation campaign, but he also warned of higher water demand during a forecast heat wave and urged responsible use. The improved storage reflects a favourable winter, emergency water measures that ran from May 2024 to February 2026, and ongoing investments in new and refurbished basins.
