Heat Waves and Flood Alerts Issued Across Several US States

A flood advisory was released for portions of central North Carolina’s Granville, Person and Vance counties after 1–2 inches of rain produced minor flooding and prompted safety warnings about avoiding low‑lying roads. In southern Illinois, flash‑flood warnings followed thunderstorms that dropped 3–6 inches of rain, stranding several vehicles on I‑57 and local roads and causing power outages and a lightning strike on a transformer.
Authorities in the affected areas advised residents to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and monitor updates from local weather offices.
