Grand Slam players end public prize money campaign
Leading professional tennis players have announced the end of their 18-month public campaign for increased prize money and better welfare at Grand Slam tournaments. The decision follows the establishment of the Grand Slam Player Advisory Council, a new body created by the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open to facilitate direct dialogue and negotiation between players and tournament organizers.
While the players have transitioned from public protests to formal consultation, they have reserved the right to restart their campaign if the council fails to meet its objectives. Key demands include a larger share of tournament revenues—with players seeking 22% compared to the current 13% to 15% range—as well as improved health options, pensions, and greater involvement in decision-making.
Since the formal proposal was submitted in July 2025, total prize money across the four major tournaments has risen to $415.6 million. Players estimate that over $30 million of this total represents incremental gains specifically resulting from the campaign. Additionally, the United States Tennis Association has agreed to contribute $2 million toward player welfare at this year’s US Open.
