Grand Slam Player Advisory Council formation

The four Grand Slam tournaments—the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open—announced the formation of the Grand Slam Player Advisory Council to establish a direct communication channel between professional players and tournament organizers. The council was designed to address matters such as prize money, revenue sharing, and player welfare.

Following an 18-month public protest campaign by ATP and WTA players regarding revenue shares, the players announced the end of their protests due to the council’s establishment. While players have not yet secured a formal commitment to their goal of receiving 22% of tournament revenues—up from the current 13% to 15% range—they noted that prize money has increased by an estimated $30 million during the campaign. Players have maintained the right to resume public protests if the council fails to meet their objectives, with a continued focus on financial support for lower-ranked athletes.

Since the formal proposal was submitted in July 2025, total prize money across the four major tournaments has risen to $415.6 million. In addition to the estimated $30 million in incremental gains attributed to the campaign, the United States Tennis Association has agreed to contribute $2 million toward player welfare at this year’s US Open. Players have transitioned from public protests to formal consultation but continue to seek improved health options, pensions, and greater involvement in decision-making.
