Teradyne Robotics sues JAKA over cobot patent infringement

Teradyne Robotics, the parent company of Universal Robots, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against a German subsidiary of the Chinese robotics manufacturer JAKA. The legal action was brought before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) Local Division in Copenhagen, as the alleged infringements involve products marketed across Denmark and other European Union member states.

The lawsuit alleges that JAKA has infringed upon multiple patents covering both hardware and software aspects of Universal Robots’ collaborative robots (cobots). Teradyne executives stated that the decision to litigate followed an investigation in which they acquired a JAKA robot to examine its similarities to their own force- and power-limited robot arms.

This marks the second major intellectual property case Teradyne Robotics has initiated in Europe in 2026 involving a Chinese robotics firm, following a previous copyright infringement suit against Elite Robots' German subsidiary.
