Teramo nursing home staff protest unpaid wages and mounting debts

On 26 June 2026, more than 200 workers from nursing homes in Teramo, Nereto and Civitella del Tronto gathered in front of the Prefecture on viale Mazzini. The staff of the cooperatives San Italia and Assistenza 2000, which operate for ASP 1, demonstrated over the failure to pay May salaries after only a partial payment for April. Unions—including CGIL, CISL, UIL and UGL—accused the Abruzzo regional authorities of neglect, quoting a protest banner: “Dignità calpestata, ora basta”. ASP 1 is burdened by a chronic debt exceeding €20 million, threatening the continuity of care for 500‑600 residents. The mayor of Teramo, Gianguido D’Alberto, attended the rally and urged the regional government to intervene. Essential assistance services for the elderly were maintained during the protest.
