Teramo province hailstorm causes estimated 35 million euros in damage

A violent hailstorm that struck 17 municipalities in the province of Teramo on July 21 has caused estimated damages approaching 35 million euros. The storm, characterized by a supercell, impacted buildings, vehicles, production facilities, and public infrastructure.

In the municipality of Teramo alone, damages are estimated at over 10.4 million euros. This includes approximately 100,000 euros in damage to public property, specifically the roof of the Sant’Atto school, as well as significant losses to private infrastructure and economic activities in the districts of Sant’Atto and San Nicolò a Tordino.

Other heavily affected areas include Bellante, where preliminary assessments suggest damages exceeding 20 million euros, and Castellalto, where claims total roughly 4 million euros for private damages plus 455,000 euros for municipal buildings. Local authorities, including Teramo Mayor Gianguido D’Alberto, are coordinating with the Regional Civil Protection Agency and the National Civil Protection Department to request a formal declaration of a natural disaster state to facilitate recovery efforts.
