L'Aquila gets €1.5 bn reconstruction funding and starts new €12 m school campus

The Italian government has approved a €1.5 billion fund to cover the costs that remained with property owners after the Superbonus credit scheme was halted. The money, part of the €1.4 billion budget set in the 2025 State Budget law, will be allocated through a digital portal; applications open on 20 July 2026 and close on 20 October 2026. Eligibility requires that the main building permit was filed by 31 December 2024 and that all contracts are registered on the anti‑mafia platform.

In the city of L'Aquila, work has begun on a new school complex in the Sassa district. The €12 million project will create a modern campus for 520 students, comprising five buildings – kindergarten, primary, lower secondary, a gym and shared‑service facilities. Construction is expected to finish by May 2028, marking a major step in the post‑earthquake regeneration of the area.
