Terme Wellovar geothermal spa nears completion in Bjelovar

The construction of Terme Wellovar, a major geothermal spa complex near Bjelovar, Croatia, is entering its final stages. Valued at nearly 42 million euros, the project is described by Mayor Dario Hrebak as a “project of a generation” and the largest investment in the city's history.

The complex, located in Veliki Korenov, will feature ten indoor and outdoor pools heated by 32-degree Celsius geothermal water sourced from a depth of 500 meters. The facility aims to integrate tourism, sports, and recreation, and is expected to open within two months. Notably, the site will utilize solar collectors and geothermal water for heating, eliminating the need for gas pipes.

Funding for the project includes 40 percent from European funds, with the remainder covered by municipal loans. The facility is designed to host major events, including the European Junior Swimming Championships next year. Management anticipates at least 200,000 annual visitors and expects the investment to be profitable enough to repay loans within ten years.
