Terminal Cuenca del Plata workers resume activities in Montevideo

Workers at Terminal Cuenca del Plata (TCP) in the Port of Montevideo have resumed activities following a union assembly held on Saturday. Truck services at the terminal were scheduled to restart at 15:00 on Saturday, August 22.

While the union approved the company’s latest proposal for a new collective bargaining agreement, union president Álvaro Reinaldo stated that certain issues remain insufficient and require further discussion. Key points of contention include the number of guaranteed workdays (jornales) and job stability. The union is seeking 24 or 25 guaranteed workdays, whereas the previous agreement established a minimum of 13. A proposal to reduce the workday from eight to six hours without salary loss was excluded from the current offer.

Marcela Barrios, the national director of labor at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), noted that the company’s 29-point proposal addresses most of the workers' aspirations. A tripartite negotiation involving the company, the union, and the MTSS is scheduled to continue this Monday.
