Terna begins dismantling Marrucina‑Montesilvano power line in Pescara province

Terna has started a four‑week project to remove the Marrucina‑Montesilvano overhead line in the province of Pescara. The work will dismantle about 10 km of aerial conductors and 28 supporting towers located in the municipalities of Pescara, Montesilvano, Città Sant’Angelo and Spoltore.

The removal is part of a broader network‑modernisation plan that includes new 150 kV underground cable links between the primary substations of San Donato, Marrucina, Santa Filomena and Montesilvano, as well as upgrades to existing infrastructure. The initiative aims to improve safety, efficiency and sustainability of the local electricity system and to meet the province’s growing demand.

When the programme is completed, roughly 40 hectares – an area comparable to 57 football fields – will be released for other uses. About 200 tonnes of steel and 40 tonnes of conductors will be recovered for recycling. In parallel, demolition of the San Donato‑Cementificio Sacci aerial line (about 2 km long) is underway, involving the removal of 14 towers in the municipality of Pescara.
