Terna launches authorization for 220 kV Partinico‑Fulgatore transmission line in Sicily
The Ministry of Environment and Energy Security has opened the authorisation procedure for a new high‑voltage electric link between Partinico and Fulgatore. Terna has published a notice that lists the cadastral parcels potentially affected in the municipalities of Partinico, Alcamo, Monreale, Calatafimi‑Segesta, Salemi, Trapani and Misiliscemi.
The project will build a 220 kV overhead line of more than 50 km connecting the existing substations at Partinico (province of Palermo) and Fulgatore (province of Trapani). It also includes a 1.5 km aerial variant of the existing SE Partanna‑SE Partinico line, with demolition of the overlapped structure.
The work is intended to strengthen the western Sicily 220 kV grid, support Italy’s energy transition, improve capacity for renewable‑energy integration and raise the reliability of local supply at 150 kV. It will create a second supply route for the Trapani area, helping to reduce voltage drops and congestion. The line complements other strategic projects such as the Tyrrhenian Link submarine cable and the Italy‑Tunisia interconnection (ELMED).
Affected landowners can view the project documentation at the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, the regional offices of Sicily and the municipal offices, as well as online. Observations may be submitted within 30 days of the notice publication.
