Terra Drone expands into ASEAN defense market with interceptor drones

Terra Drone is aggressively expanding its presence in the global defense and infrastructure protection markets. The Japanese company has transitioned from civilian applications to developing interceptor drones and counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS).

In Southeast Asia, Terra Drone has signed a strategic collaboration with Malaysia’s DEFTECH to provide ISR drones for maritime and border surveillance, as well as interceptor drones. The company intends to use Malaysia as a regional hub to expand into Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia, leveraging Japan’s Official Security Assistance (OSA) framework.

Technologically, the company is utilizing 3D printing to accelerate production and allow for rapid design modifications. Its Terra B1 interceptor drone was recently selected by Japan’s Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA) for mass production following successful demonstration trials. Additionally, Terra Drone has begun developing C-UAS solutions designed to protect civilian critical infrastructure, such as power plants, airports, and oil and gas facilities, using fused radar and electro-optical sensors.
