Terra Drone to mass produce interceptor drones for Japan

Terra Drone has successfully passed demonstration tests conducted by the Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency for its domestic interceptor drone, the Terra B1. The aircraft was selected from 38 competing companies to participate in the agency’s “Interceptor Drone Early Acquisition Program.”

The program aims to address the cost imbalance caused by using expensive missiles to intercept low-cost, long-range kamikaze drones. Following the successful tests held between late July and early August, the project is moving into a rapid mass production and procurement phase. The schedule is notably compressed, with mass production contracts expected in late August and delivery targeted for around September 2026.

Terra Drone’s selection was based on flight performance as well as its ability to provide rapid domestic production, operational support, and a robust supply chain including batteries, communication, and control systems. Initial deployment will focus on the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, with future plans to expand usage to the Ground and Air Self-Defense Forces.
