Tesco expected to show improved growth in upcoming half-year update
Analysts expect Tesco to report accelerating growth in its upcoming half-year update on October 8, following a slower first quarter. While the supermarket giant reported weaker-than-expected sales growth of 1% for the three months ending in May, market experts suggest that improved summer weather and easing challenges should drive a more positive trajectory.
Under the leadership of Ken Murphy, Tesco has strengthened its position in the UK grocery market, recently reaching a 28.1% market share. This figure surpasses the combined shares of its primary competitors, Sainsbury’s and Asda. Analysts at Hargreaves Lansdown forecast that first-half revenue could rise by 3.1% to £37.2 billion, supported by market share gains from initiatives like the Aldi Price Match and the expanded Finest range.
Previous sales were impacted by unfavorable weather and consumer sentiment related to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, though the company noted that these factors had not yet resulted in direct price inflation.
