Tesla FSD updates promised amid EU regulatory delays
Tesla is working on updates to its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software to address core user concerns, specifically pothole avoidance and navigation improvements. Phil Duan, Tesla’s AI Engineering Director, confirmed that enhancements to these features are forthcoming. The updates aim to improve the system's ability to recognize road hazards and learn driver preferences to avoid unintuitive routing.
Simultaneously, Tesla faces regulatory hurdles in Europe. A planned European Union vote regarding the authorization of FSD across all member states has been delayed. The Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles removed the vote from its October agenda, meaning a decision may not occur until December at the earliest. This delay follows independent testing in Belgium that raised concerns regarding speed limit compliance and improper overtaking maneuvers near cyclists.
While some users have reported improved performance in real-world rush hour testing, the system remains classified as 'supervised,' requiring constant driver attention and responsibility.
