Tesla and Rivian launch seasonal Halloween software updates

Tesla and Rivian have introduced specialized software updates to provide themed experiences for electric vehicle owners during the Halloween season.

Tesla has released a ‘Halloween Mode’ via its 2026.38.3 software update. The feature transforms the vehicle’s digital interface into a ‘haunted house on wheels,’ displaying a ghost-covered vehicle on the central screen and setting spooky environments with pumpkins and dry trees. The update also modifies how other road users appear on the display, such as pedestrians appearing as skeletons. When parked, the ‘Trick or Treat’ function allows the car to react to approaching visitors by flashing lights and playing chilling sounds through external speakers.

Rivian has launched a Ghostbusters-themed Halloween Mode for its R1S, R1T, and R2 models, developed in collaboration with Sony Pictures. Available through November 2, the update allows owners to sync interior and exterior lighting and audio to match the Ecto-1 vehicle. Second-generation owners can select specific themes including Proton Pack, Slimer, Ghost Trap, or Peter Venkman. The update includes an arcade-style game playable while parked and allows owners to trigger sirens and flashing lights via mobile or smartwatch apps.
