Tesla and Uber robotaxi crashes raise safety concerns in US

Tesla disclosed two recent robotaxi crashes in which teleoperators were involved, highlighting challenges the company faces as it scales its autonomous ride‑hailing service.

Separately, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation after a series of robotaxi incidents in Dallas and Austin. Since Uber launched its robotaxi service in December, a total of 16 crashes have been reported in the two Texas cities.

The incidents involving both Tesla and Uber underscore growing safety and regulatory scrutiny of autonomous vehicle operations in the United States as companies race to commercialize robotaxi fleets.
