Tesla begins autonomous Cybercab shuttle service at Giga Texas

Tesla has moved its Cybercab program at the Gigafactory Texas in Austin from testing to operational use, completing roughly 50 driver‑less trips over two days on the plant’s internal roads. The shuttles operate without steering wheels or pedals, rely solely on camera sensors, and demonstrate autonomous navigation, obstacle detection and vehicle‑state management in a real‑world factory environment.

In parallel, Tesla’s Austin Robotaxi Hub, finished in March 2026, has started using a dedicated cleaning robot. The machine, equipped with a versatile mechanical arm and tool‑changing system, removes interior debris, wipes touchscreens, and can handle trash or forgotten items, supporting the company’s broader plan for a largely unmanned robotaxi fleet. The hub also includes superchargers and diagnostic equipment, and the cleaning robot’s deployment marks another step toward a self‑sustaining robotaxi service that will initially pilot employee transport before public rollout.
