Tesla enables Vehicle-to-Home power for Model 3 and Model Y
Tesla has announced that all Model 3 and Model Y vehicles ordered after October 1, 2026, will support Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality. This feature allows the car's battery to provide bi-directional charging, sending power back into a home's electrical system during power outages or blackouts.
To utilize this capability, homeowners must meet specific hardware requirements. The system requires the installation of at least one Tesla Powerwall 3 battery and the use of either a Tesla Universal Wall Connector or a Gen 3 Wall Connector. The feature is currently available for new orders in the United States and Puerto Rico; existing owners may need to contact Tesla support to enable the capability.
Tesla estimates that a Model 3 or Model Y with at least a 90% charge can provide over two days of additional electricity to an average home using 30 kilowatt-hours per day. The setup is rated for a maximum continuous output of 11.52 kilowatts. This expansion of V2H capabilities follows the previous availability of the feature on the Tesla Cybertruck.
