Tesla launches robotaxi service in Miami
Tesla announced on its official X account that "Miami now has autonomous robotaxi service," activating the Robotaxi fleet in a limited western and central portion of Miami-Dade County while excluding downtown and Miami Beach. The rollout follows earlier deployments in Austin, Dallas and Houston and makes Miami the third U.S. market where Tesla offers fully driver‑less rides.
The service operates without a safety driver inside the vehicle, mirroring the model used in Austin earlier this year. Tesla’s expansion plan targets other Florida cities such as Orlando and Tampa and further U.S. markets including Phoenix, Las Vegas and more. The company’s broader AI and robotics strategy, highlighted by a market capitalization of about $1.4 trillion, hinges on the commercial success of Robotaxis.
Tesla now faces direct competition in Miami from Alphabet’s Waymo, which began operating there in January 2026, and Amazon‑owned Zoox, which is testing its own robotaxi fleet in the area. Investors are watching the rollout closely as the firm seeks to prove that its autonomous‑driving software can generate recurring revenue at scale.
