Tesla Model 3 battery durability demonstrated through high-mileage tests
Recent tests and long-term usage reports of the Tesla Model 3 are providing insights into the durability and degradation of electric vehicle batteries.
A 2022 Tesla Model 3 equipped with LFP battery technology, which had traveled approximately 125,000 kilometers, was tested to assess its health. The results showed the battery retained 92% of its original capacity, storing about 56.2 kWh of its 60.5 kWh total. This finding aligns with data from the Swedish company Carla, which observed similar LFP batteries maintaining roughly 93.3% capacity after 100,000 kilometers.
In a more extreme case in Europe, a Tesla Model 3 has surpassed 700,000 kilometers while still operating on its original battery. Experts note that at this high mileage, total degradation typically ranges between 15% and 25%. Despite the intensive usage, the vehicle continues to deliver consistent performance for daily driving, challenging common perceptions regarding the lifespan of lithium-ion battery packs.
