Tesla renames Full Self-Driving to Assisted Driving in Europe

Tesla has rebranded its 'Full Self-Driving' (FSD) software to 'Tesla Assisted Driving' across several European markets, including Germany, Spain, France, and the Netherlands. This change follows significant pressure from European regulators who argued that the original name was misleading and suggested a level of autonomy that the system, which requires constant driver supervision, does not possess.

The decision was influenced by discussions with the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. In exchange for the name change, German authorities have indicated they will support the system's approval process at the EU level. While eight EU countries have already granted individual approval, a final bloc-wide vote has been postponed until at least December 2026 to allow for further technical verification and discussions regarding liability.

In some regions, such as Denmark, certain aspects of the system are already permitted, whereas in Norway and Sweden, only basic packages are currently available. This rebranding is viewed as a strategic move to align with stricter European regulatory standards and facilitate the broader rollout of Tesla's driver-assistance technologies across the continent.
