Tesla rolls out FSD v14 Lite for older HW3 hardware
Tesla announced a new version of its Full Self‑Driving software, FSD v14 Lite, designed specifically for vehicles equipped with the third‑generation hardware (HW3). The company acknowledged that HW3 cannot run the full‑feature FSD v14 developed for newer HW4 platforms, so the Lite edition uses a “distillation” process where the more powerful HW4 model trains a lighter version for HW3. Early‑access rollout will start with a selected group of users before expanding to the broader fleet. The update allows HW3 cars to move beyond version 12.6.4 and incorporate some improvements from v13.2, though fully autonomous, unsupervised driving remains unavailable to consumers, and only Tesla’s experimental robotaxi fleet runs a completely autonomous version.
