Two killed in Nevada crash involving Tesla Semi electric truck

A Tesla Semi electric truck collided with two stopped vehicles on Highway 50 near Dayton, Nevada, on the morning of 28 June. The Class 8 semi struck a Volkswagen Beetle and a Ford SUV, killing the occupants of the Beetle, a married couple identified as Sergio and Jennifer Villanueva. A third occupant of the SUV was air‑lifted to a hospital in critical condition. Preliminary statements suggest the truck driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel. The incident is the first recorded fatal crash involving a Tesla Semi, and investigators have not determined whether the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system was active. Nevada State Police and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office are investigating, while federal regulators are considering a mandate for emergency‑braking systems on heavy‑duty trucks.
