Tesla to roll out unsupervised FSD to customers in seven months; HW3 owners largely excluded

Tesla announced that it will begin region-by-region deployment of unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) for customer usage in about seven months. FSD owners will start receiving unsupervised FSD, with the company providing current usage metrics: 1.28 million active FSD vehicles, 770,000 one-time purchases, and 510,000 subscriptions. At roughly $1,000 per year per subscription, annual subscription revenue is about $0.5 billion.

Separately, Elon Musk acknowledged that millions of Tesla vehicles will not receive unsupervised FSD because they run on Hardware 3 (HW3). Approximately 4 million vehicles operate on HW3, including some customers who already paid for the feature; these owners will be unable to upgrade to unsupervised FSD without changing hardware. Musk stated, "I wish it were otherwise, but Hardware 3 simply does..." highlighting the hardware limitation impacting access to the feature.
