Tesla's Automatic Collision Evasion feature demonstrated in real-world footage
Tesla’s Automatic Collision Evasion feature has been demonstrated in one of its first real-world recordings by a vehicle owner. The footage shows the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system automatically correcting the vehicle's course and reengaging control to prevent the driver from hitting a curb.
Ashok Elluswamy, lead of Tesla’s AI team, described the safety system as ‘a guardian angel always looking out for you.’ The feature is part of recent software updates, specifically appearing in FSD (Supervised) versions for vehicles equipped with HW4 hardware.
According to technical release notes, the system is designed to trigger in two primary scenarios: to avoid imminent frontal collisions on highways where braking alone is insufficient, or to intervene when a driver appears inattentive, such as reaching into a back seat or accidentally disabling the system. The feature requires an active FSD subscription and Automatic Emergency Braking to be enabled.
