TETFund approves DICON Institute for funding starting 2027
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has approved the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) as a beneficiary institution. Starting in 2027, DICON will receive annual funding allocations intended to bolster technical education, research, and innovation within the defence sector. This support aims to develop critical infrastructure, specialized laboratories, and ICT facilities at the DICON Institute of Technology.
TETFund Executive Secretary Sonny Echono emphasized that strengthening technical expertise in fields such as mechatronics and specialized engineering is vital for expanding Nigeria’s domestic manufacturing capacity and reducing reliance on foreign specialists.
In a separate move toward transparency, TETFund has announced a second National Town Hall Meeting in Abuja, scheduled for October 15, 2026. Chaired by Aminu Bello Masari, the meeting will serve as a platform for the Fund to account for its investments in higher education and engage with policymakers, academics, and civil society regarding its mandate and impact.
