Tether to bring USDT to Bitcoin via RGB protocol
Tether is preparing to bring its stablecoin, USDT, back to the Bitcoin network via the RGB protocol. This expansion is being executed by the startup Utexo, which recently raised $7.5 million in a funding round led by Tether. The primary advantage of this move is enhanced privacy, as the protocol allows most payment details to remain off the public ledger, leaving only a minimal digital footprint on the blockchain.
While USDT is expanding its reach, Tether does not intend to withdraw support from existing networks. Currently, the majority of the $184 billion USDT supply resides on the TRON and Ethereum networks, accounting for over 90% of the total circulation. For existing users, the transition to Bitcoin-based USDT will represent a new network option rather than a replacement of current assets.
