Tetovo Emergency Services Report 50% Rise in Heat-Related Calls

In Tetovo, Kosovo, the rapid‑response medical team experienced a more than 50 % increase in interventions as temperatures rose. Most cases involved chronic heart or respiratory patients, fainting due to heat, and injuries from motorbike accidents on mountainous roads. Officials urged people, especially those over 60 or with pre‑existing conditions, to limit outdoor activity to early morning hours, stay hydrated, and keep a water bottle handy.

Health experts also recommend practical measures to cope with hot nights. Sleeping on the side—particularly the left side—helps the body dissipate heat more efficiently and can lessen acid reflux. Additional tips include cooling the bedroom before sleep, using lightweight cotton bedding, avoiding heavy meals and alcohol late in the evening, taking lukewarm showers, and drinking sufficient fluids throughout the day.
