Texas and Missouri increase holiday weekend patrols

Law enforcement agencies in Texas and Missouri are increasing patrols for the Labor Day holiday weekend as part of Operation Crash Awareness Reduction Effort (CARE).

In Texas, the Department of Public Safety is deploying additional state troopers from September 4 through September 7. Enforcement will target speeding, driving while intoxicated, distracted driving, seat belt non-compliance, and violations of the Move Over, Slow Down statute. During the previous Labor Day enforcement period, troopers issued over 63,000 warnings and citations, including 211 arrests for driving while intoxicated.

In Missouri, the State Highway Patrol will deploy all available troopers to monitor roadways and waterways. The patrol will enforce speed limits, seat belt laws, and impaired driving regulations. Officials noted that during the 2025 Labor Day holiday, Missouri saw 931 traffic crashes resulting in six deaths and 423 injuries, while boating incidents included one drowning and nine boating while intoxicated arrests.
