Texas Braces for Flooding and Extreme Heat as Storms Persist

Remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur continued to affect Texas, bringing heavy rain, saturated soils and a heat advisory that forecasts temperatures in the low‑ to mid‑90s with heat‑index values up to 112 °F. Governor Greg Abbott has declared a disaster for 101 counties, activating emergency resources as the state deals with both flash‑flood risk and dangerous heat.

Across the state, thunderstorms moved southeast on Friday, producing severe rain, localized flash‑flood warnings and a few tornado alerts. Flood concerns were reported in Dallas‑Collin County, the Hill Country, East Texas, the Piney Woods and the Gulf‑coast areas of Houston and Galveston. Officials warned of rapid creek rises, high‑water road conditions, frequent lightning and gusty winds, with the potential for additional storms through Saturday.
