Texas Longhorns remain No. 1 ahead of Red River Rivalry
The No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns remain undefeated and hold the top spot in the AP Top 25 following a 20-17 road victory over Tennessee. Despite the win, the team enters its bye week facing several areas for improvement before the upcoming Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma.
Defensively, Texas has been dominant, led by Colin Simmons, who recorded five sacks in the Tennessee game. However, the offense has struggled with consistency and explosive plays, ranking 111th nationally in explosive-play rate. Head coach Steve Sarkisian noted that while the start has been good, the team must execute their system more effectively.
Additionally, discipline remains a concern. Texas currently ranks 89th nationally in penalties, averaging 6.3 flags per game. The team will use the bye week to address offensive momentum, special teams, and on-field accountability ahead of their October 10 matchup in Dallas.
