US Midterm Early Voting Surges Nationally and in Texas

Early voting for the upcoming US midterm elections has seen a significant national increase, with over 13 million mail-in and early in-person ballots cast compared to 9 million during the same period in 2022. Key states experiencing surges include Texas, where early voting has grown by 74%, and Kansas, where participation has more than doubled. Other states such as Maine, North Carolina, and Ohio have reported increases of over 30%.

In Texas, several counties have reported record-breaking numbers. Harris County recorded over 104,600 votes on the first day of early voting, surpassing its 2018 midterm record. Dallas County also reported a historic 76,079 votes for its first day. In Brazoria County, more than 27,000 people voted in person during the first two days.

Political analysts suggest the increased turnout is driven by voter dissatisfaction regarding the high cost of living, fuel prices, and trade tariffs. The surge is particularly notable in states expected to decide control of the US Senate, as Democrats attempt to flip Republican-held seats in several battleground regions.
