Texas storms bring heavy rain and flash‑flood risk before a heat dome arrives
Scattered thunderstorms are expected across most of Texas this weekend, with the highest rain chances in the southeastern two‑thirds of the state. Slow‑moving storms could drop 5 to 8 inches of rain locally, creating flash‑flood hazards such as street flooding, high‑water crossings and rapid creek rises in regions from the Permian Basin to the Hill Country and the Texoma area. Isolated severe storms may produce quarter‑size hail and wind gusts over 60 mph.
By Sunday, storm activity will wane as a ridge of high pressure builds, ushering in a hot, dry pattern. Temperatures are forecast to climb into the upper 90s, with the first 100‑degree days expected early next week across the Borderland, including El Paso. The weekend thus shifts from heavy rain and localized flooding to a rising heat dome that will dominate the forecast.
