Texas Tesla crash kills 76‑year‑old woman

A Tesla Model 3 traveling at high speed crashed into a residential house in Texas, killing 76‑year‑old Martha Avila who was inside the home. Security‑camera footage shows the vehicle leaving the road, crossing a yard and striking the brick wall of the house.

Texas authorities are investigating whether the vehicle’s Autopilot system contributed to the fatal collision. The victim’s family has filed a lawsuit against Tesla, alleging a design defect in the autonomous‑driving software and negligence by both the company and the driver, Michael Batler.

Tesla responded that the driver manually overrode the Autopilot and pressed the accelerator, reaching about 112 km/h (70 mph) in a residential area. "The vehicle was traveling at about 112 km/h at the time of the collision," said Elon Musk’s AI software vice‑president in an X post. The investigation remains ongoing.
