Thai AirAsia suspends all domestic flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport until end‑September

Thai AirAsia announced that, effective 15 July, it will suspend all nine domestic routes that operated from Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The flights will be rerouted through the airline’s main base at Don Mueang International Airport and the suspension will remain in place until 30 September, with services expected to resume at Suvarnabhumi on 1 October. The airline cited a more‑than‑threefold rise in jet‑fuel prices – its primary operating expense – and weaker mid‑year travel demand as the reasons for the network cut, following an earlier 30 % capacity reduction in May‑June. Other Thai carriers, including Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Thai Lion Air and Thai VietJet Air, have also adjusted schedules or raised fares in response to the fuel‑price shock. Thailand’s transport ministry has discussed a temporary cut to the excise tax on jet fuel as a possible relief measure. Passengers with existing bookings are advised to contact Thai AirAsia for rebooking via Don Mueang. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand also announced new security rules allowing officers to open checked baggage without the passenger present when a threat is detected.
