Thai Ha General Clinic: 3 detained for medical fraud and tax evasion
Hanoi Police have launched a criminal investigation and detained three individuals following major violations at Thai Ha General Clinic in Dong Da District. An inspection by the Hanoi Department of Health and internal security forces revealed that the clinic engaged in several fraudulent practices.
Authorities found that the clinic prescribed unnecessary medical services that were not in the approved technical list or had no therapeutic effect, such as circumcision and infrared or short-wave treatments. Furthermore, staff reportedly manipulated test results to exaggerate patient conditions in order to extract more money. The clinic also operated an unlicensed production and business of traditional herbal medicines using unverified ingredients and uncertified production areas.
In addition to medical fraud, the investigation uncovered serious financial and immigration crimes. The clinic leader allegedly directed staff to use personal bank accounts to receive patient payments to evade taxes, keeping billions of VND off the official books. The police have also initiated proceedings for “organizing illegal entry for foreigners into Vietnam.” Authorities have urged any patients who used services at the clinic to contact the investigation agency to protect their legal rights.
