Thai House Speaker calls for whip meeting to set no-confidence debate schedule

Sophon Saram, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has tasked First Deputy Speaker Mallika Jirapanvanich with convening a meeting between the three-party whips to finalize the schedule for an upcoming no-confidence debate.

Disagreements persist regarding the duration of the debate. The opposition has requested five days, while the government suggests a shorter window of two to three days. The debate is expected to focus on allegations of illegal conduct and corruption involving 18 ministers.

Speaker Saram urged all parties to engage in constructive debate based on evidence rather than personal insults or verbal attacks. He emphasized that the credibility of the proceedings depends on presenting factual evidence to support accusations and subsequent rebuttals by the Cabinet.
