Thai Interior Ministry probes local civil service exam fraud

On 13 July, Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Arsith Samphantharat told reporters that the ministry is advancing its investigation into alleged fraud in local civil‑service examinations. The probe follows Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s 11 July meeting with the anti‑corruption commission, the disciplinary‑review board and the Department of Local Administration, where discrepancies were found between original score sheets and published results.

The disciplinary committee will examine five officials already removed from post, while the National Anti‑Corruption Commission has identified more than 6,000 cases pending review. Police are tracing financial links of suspected participants. A further meeting of the Civil Service Examination Committee is scheduled for 15 July to forward its findings to the Central Personnel Committee, which may lead to revocation of appointments and possible oral examinations for three additional local officials. The Prime Minister also used the meeting to update flood‑response plans.

The investigation aims to restore public confidence by swiftly addressing the misconduct and ensuring the integrity of local‑government recruitment.
