Thai man found dead in Sungai Golok after fleeing security raid

The body of a 35-year-old Thai man was recovered by members of the public in the Sungai Golok area near Kampung Pisau Raut, Tumpat, on Sunday afternoon. The discovery follows an incident on Saturday where the man reportedly jumped into the river to evade a security raid.

During an operation known as Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan, officers from the Pasukan Gerakan Am (PGA) spotted a suspicious boat carrying two men. Upon noticing the security forces, both men jumped into the river; one successfully reached the Thai bank, while the other disappeared beneath the water.

Authorities inspected the abandoned boat and discovered approximately 1,178 kilograms of rice and 100 kilograms of glutinous rice, believed to be smuggled from Thailand. The total value of the seized rice is estimated at RM5,412. The matter has been handed over to the relevant Thai authorities for further action.
