Thai police arrest suspects in gold investment scam and human smuggling cases

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Thailand has conducted two separate law enforcement operations involving fraud and illegal immigration.

In the first case, authorities arrested a 28-year-old man in Buriram for his involvement in a fraudulent gold investment scheme. The suspect is accused of fraud and entering false information into a computer system. The scam operated via fake Facebook profiles and gold shop pages, using targeted advertisements to lure victims into LINE groups. The perpetrators promised unrealistic returns and gold prices below market value, displaying fake profit balances to deceive investors.

In a separate operation, highway police intercepted a vehicle transporting seven Cambodian nationals. The group was being paid 1,000 baht each to assist in the smuggling. Police arrested eight individuals in total, including one Thai national charged with assisting illegal immigrants in evading arrest, and seven Cambodian nationals for residing in the country without permission or entering illegally.
