Thai police investigate fraudulent activities and fake news

Authorities in Thailand are investigating two separate incidents involving financial fraud and disinformation.

In Khon Kaen, a 73-year-old retiree reported losing 24.48 million baht to scammers. The victim was contacted by individuals claiming her personal information had been misused. Following instructions via the Line application, she transferred funds 27 times under the pretense of verifying financial trails. Police have frozen three bank accounts and are continuing their investigation.

Separately, cyber police are investigating a Facebook page named ‘Godd Dam’ for spreading fake news. The page posted a manipulated bank transfer slip claiming that Anutin Charnvirakul had received a 7-million-baht payment. Kasikorn Bank clarified that the account number shown does not exist in their system and noted that daily transfer limits via K PLUS are capped at 5 million baht. Investigators have identified the individual behind the page as a 26-year-old man from Nakhon Sawan.
