Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visits Bhutan to strengthen ties
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul arrived in Bhutan for an official visit from October 30 to November 1, 2026. This marks the first official visit by a Thai Prime Minister to the kingdom in eight years. He was received at Paro International Airport by Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and other high-ranking officials.
The visit aims to bolster bilateral cooperation across several key sectors, including public health, renewable energy, agriculture, trade, and investment. The leaders also intend to expand collaboration in tourism and cultural exchange, leveraging the shared Buddhist heritage between the two nations.
During the trip, Prime Minister Anutin and his delegation visited the Great Buddha Dordenma in Thimphu. There, he participated in local traditions by offering Khadhar and lighting butter lamps, a gesture intended to reflect the deep religious and cultural bonds that serve as a foundation for the relationship between Thailand and Bhutan.
