Thai Rangers Killed in Narathiwat; Malaysia Denies Suspect Escape
On 22 July, an ambush in Narathiwat Province, Thailand killed five members of the 45th Ranger Force. Malaysian police in Kelantan said there is no evidence that the attackers fled across the Malaysia‑Thailand border. Chief of Kelantan Police, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, told reporters that “every time there is a shooting in southern Thailand, accusations arise that suspects escape to Kelantan, but no suspicious movement has been detected.”
Kelantan authorities said they continuously monitor the border, have tightened controls, and support Thailand’s proposal to build a 90‑kilometre security fence along the frontier to curb cross‑border crime and drug trafficking.
