Thai Weather Agency warns of heavy rain and 4‑meter seas across southern and central Thailand
The Thai Meteorological Department issued its 10th weather warning for July 13‑15, 2023, citing a strong southwest monsoon that will bring heavy to very heavy rain to the western coast of the southern region, the western part of central Thailand and the eastern provinces. Wave heights are expected to reach 2‑4 metres in the upper Andaman Sea, exceeding 4 metres where thunderstorms occur, and 2‑3 metres in the upper Gulf of Thailand.
The agency advises mariners to exercise caution, avoid sailing in thunderstorm‑affected zones, and recommends that small vessels stay offshore. Residents in Ranong, Phang Nga, Chanthaburi, Trat and Kanchanaburi are warned of sudden flash floods and landslides, especially in steep, hill‑top catchments and low‑lying valleys. The department urges people to monitor conditions and plan travel carefully. A tropical storm, Bavi, over Anhui, China, is not expected to enter Thai airspace but may intensify the monsoon affecting the country.
