Thailand advances government bond sales and U.S. trade negotiations
The Thai government is advancing two significant economic initiatives involving domestic savings and international trade.
The Ministry of Finance, through the Public Debt Management Office, has announced the second round of ‘Aom Plus’ government bonds for fiscal year 2026. The offering totals 4,000 million baht, split equally between the ‘Pao Tang’ application (2,000 million baht) and the Bond Connect Platform (2,000 million baht). The 3-year bonds offer a 1.80% annual interest rate, while 10-year bonds offer 2.80%. Purchases via the Pao Tang app start at 100 baht and follow a first-come, first-served basis, while Bond Connect requires a 1,000 baht minimum.
Simultaneously, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supajee Suthumpun has reached a substantive conclusion in negotiations with the United States Trade Representative (USTR) regarding the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART). The goal is to protect Thai exports to the U.S., which represent a market value of 2.37 trillion baht and support approximately 400,000 jobs. The discussions aim to ensure fair tariff rates following U.S. investigations into structural overcapacity, preventing Thai goods from losing competitiveness against regional rivals.
