Thailand and Singapore leaders hold strategic retreat to boost cooperation

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong convened for the 5th Thailand–Singapore Leaders’ Retreat in Bangkok. This marks the first such retreat between the two nations in 11 years.

The leaders signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding social development cooperation, focusing on social welfare, community development, and support for women, children, and persons with disabilities. They also agreed to pursue four additional agreements covering the digital economy, transnational crime, food security, and supply chain resilience.

Strategic cooperation will focus on four main pillars: 1. Environment, sustainability, and energy/food security, including clean energy and regional power grid integration. 2. Economy, investment, and digital sectors, targeting semiconductors, green economy, AI, and financial connectivity. 3. Defense and security. 4. Regional strategic coordination, specifically regarding their upcoming successive ASEAN chairmanships in 2027 and 2028.
