Thailand-Singapore strategic cooperation

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong convened in Bangkok for the 5th Thailand–Singapore Leaders’ Retreat, the first such meeting in 11 years. The leaders signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding social development cooperation, focusing on social welfare, community development, and support for vulnerable groups. They also reached agreements concerning the digital economy, transnational crime, food security, and supply chain resilience.

Strategic cooperation between the two nations is set to focus on four pillars: environment and energy security, economy and digital sectors, defense and security, and regional strategic coordination. This coordination specifically addresses their upcoming successive ASEAN chairmanships, with Singapore scheduled for 2027 and Thailand for 2028.

During the retreat, the leaders engaged in informal diplomacy at Government House, where Prime Minister Wong accompanied Prime Minister Anutin during a musical performance. Prime Minister Wong characterized bilateral ties as being in “excellent shape.”
